The Learning Wheel FAQs

WHAT COURSES DOES THE LEARNING WHEEL OFFER?

The Learning Wheel offers a range of expertly developed course and programs for primary and secondary school children. We offer programmes specific to your child’s needs in English and Maths. For further information about how we can support your child, please call 07930 557 870.

WHY IS THE LEARNING WHEEL THE BEST CHOICE FOR TUITION?

We ensure every child receives the best available tutoring to support them with their bespoke programme. We discuss ongoing goals, challenges and aspirations to help your child be the best they can be.

We are trained teachers who understand the transformational power of a good education. Whether your child is learning how to add or preparing for their entry exams or GCSEs, we have specialist tutors to work with them.

We build confidence, we build grades. We are The Learning Wheel.

How do you tailor the tutoring programme to my child's needs?

Our in-depth initial assessment will highlight the strengths and challenges that your child has in their academic work. We will discuss these results with you as well to gain an understanding of goals for the future. It is very helpful to understand which areas are the most stressful for your child and their ambitions. This will allow us to prioritise the areas of particular importance as we work towards the common goal.

An example of this is that your child may want to move up a set in maths this year. They are finding their mental arithmetic is slowing them down and causing anxiety. To help them move up a set without affecting their confidence, we will both work to extend areas to move up with set whilst initially prioritising mental arithmetic and improving overall speed and accuracy.

Do you offer exam preparation courses?

Yes, we offer specific exam preparation courses to meet your child’s academic goals. From 7+ to GCSE we have tailored courses that are based on the syllabus and will help your child reach the grades they want. We do advise that your child has a year to work towards their exam preparations. We run courses that are tailored to your child’s starting point and give them a clear idea about what is coming next and what they should be expecting. Whether it is an hour after school or a Saturday morning, we are here to help with hard exam questions and develop effective study techniques.

As we get closer to the date of their exam, we will move from content knowledge to exam technique that includes time management and past papers.

What is your policy on homework?

We set homework to complement the materials learnt in your child’s tutoring session. The homework will not teach new material but reinforce what was learnt during the session. We ask that students hand in their homework the following lesson so it can be marked and questions can be answered promptly.

How do you keep me updated on my child's progress?

We will have regular termly meetings with you to discuss the progress and future goals of your child. If you have any school reports, it is helpful to bring these along to discuss them as well. If you have concerns or feedback please call us or let us know during your child’s session to follow this with us.

WHAT CAN MY CHILD EXPECT ON THEIR FIRST LESSON AT THE LEARNING WHEEL?

The work we do on each topic is thorough and as such, we will be analysing the depth of your child’s knowledge from the foundation level of the topic getting progressively harder

We will outline with your child what they will be covering in their lesson and actively encourage them to feedback on how they are feeling about the work as well as ask any questions.

Your child will become familiar with the work requirements throughout the programme. They will quickly find themselves settling into The Learning Wheel routine and be rewarded when they pass their end of topic test.

How does The Learning Wheel stay up-to-date with syllabus changes?

The Learning Wheel is dedicated to ensuring we reflect changes to the syllabus. We regularly review our materials to ensure syllabus compliance and that our resources are the best quality possible for our students.

HOW DO YOU CATER FOR CHILDREN WITH LEARNING CHALLENGES AND NEURODIVERSE?

Being specially qualified as a dyslexia teacher and assessor The Learning Wheel’s director, Darshani, is uniquely positioned to tutor neurodiverse students. The Learning Wheel is also registered with PATOSS, British Dyslexia Association and The Tutors’ Association to ensure we provide the best support possible for all students.

IS THERE SOMEONE I CAN SPEAK TO BEFORE ENROLLING MY CHILD FOR TUITION?
